Communication & Connection with Spelling as Communication.

What is spelling as communication?

Spelling (or typing) as a form of communication teaches the purposeful motor skills needed to point to letters on an alphabet board. This allows an individual to spell their thoughts letter by letter, as a reliable form of communication.

Spelling/typing is an AAC teaching methodology that supports individuals who are nonspeaking, minimally speaking or unreliably speaking who spell or type to communicate. These individuals are often diagnosed with sensory-motor differences such as autism, apraxia, dyspraxia, sensory processing disorder, motor learning disorder, Down syndrome, etc.

What does meraki mean?

Meraki is a Greek word that is used to describe doing something with soul, creativity or love - - it’s when you put a piece of you into what you are doing.

This is the kind of effort required by both a speller and a CRP in order to have a successful partnership in the world of spelling to communicate. We are eager to pass this beautiful energy on to you and your speller ❤️

Non-speaking vs non-thinking- what does it mean? As a non-speaker, it means everything. I have no speech at my disposal, but my thoughts are greatness abound. They are abstract, robust, and beyond the comprehension of most. For the first 13 years of my life, most everyone doubted my intelligence. It wasn't until my mom was introduced to Spelling to Communicate (S2C) that my cognitive ability was not only noticed but celebrated and accepted.
